Human souls are being taken by monsters known as ‘Denizens of the Crimson realm’, and high school student Yuji Sakai is the next victim. However, a sword-wielding girl in black, with flaming red eyes and hair intervenes in the nick of time and reveals to Sakai he possesses a special soul called the ‘Mystes’ which holds a powerful treasure sought after by the monsters. So begins Sakai’s life with Shana, a guardian of the spirit realm who swears to protect him.
