Kagome accidentally unleashes a previously sealed half-demon, half-human, by the name of Inu Yasha, who was sentenced to everlasting sleep with a magical arrow to a tree. When the half demon is awakened and the jewel accidentally shattered into hundreds of pieces. 

From there, the two must search the land over and travel through time to recover the shards in order to make their dreams come true...

The past...the present...a love triangle

Hundreds of years ago, a powerful priestess, Kikyo guarded a magical jewel called the Jade of Spirit from evil demons and humans who wished to abuse its power. The priestess fell in love with a half demon, Inu Yasha and wished to live her life with him though fate does not permits.

Inu Yasha has originally planned to use the Jade of Spirit to become a human for Kikyo, But misunderstanding stirred abd Kikyo was seriously injured by Inu Yasha. Before her death, she sealed Inu Yasha in an eternal sleep. In death, she took the jewel with her so that it would never again fall into the wrong hands.

A love triangle forms when Inu Yasha starts to see Kagome as not just Kikyo's reincarnation, but a whole new person. He becomes fiecerly protective of her even though he'll never admit it.
